New tabs would get a nice solid color[1], that would begin to fade/De-saturate over time when the tab is unfocused/deselected, and starts to gain color again when focused/selected (if it's not just being dragged[2]).

The user is able to quickly distinguish which tabs are newer that others even if reordered), or tabs that they have been reading recently versus tabs that they haven't read recently.[3]

[1] From a palette of themed color schemes
[2] Maybe have an option: "shake a tab to heat it up"? 🙂
[3] Have an EZ way to sort things by 'heat' ?
